About the Executive Director
Toni Marie Johnson
Toni Johnson is a Sacramento-based maternal health advocate, doula, nonprofit leader, and Executive Director of I Care Maternity Home (ICMH). She is a devoted mother of four children — three daughters and one son — and a proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren. Her personal experiences as a mother and grandmother have deeply shaped her passion for supporting women, children, and families throughout the community.
Toni has dedicated years to supporting pregnant mothers, infants, families, and vulnerable community members through culturally responsive care, advocacy, education, crisis intervention, housing support, and food security initiatives.
She began her maternal health journey through Her Health First and Black Mothers United, where she served as a Pregnancy Coach and Doula supporting expecting mothers throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Over the years, she has supported more than 100 births while managing large caseloads of pregnant clients requiring emotional support, transportation assistance, appointment advocacy, housing referrals, parenting education, and emergency resources.
Toni completed Doula Training through Birthing Project USA in 2019 and has continued advancing her education through trauma-informed maternal health and breastfeeding management training programs. She has also received recognition for her leadership and participation in community healing and racial trauma education initiatives.
Her work has contributed to broader Sacramento County efforts focused on improving outcomes for Black mothers and infants. Community newsletters and outreach reports connected to Her Health First and Black Mothers United documented measurable support outcomes for women and families, including maternal education programs, childbirth classes, baby showers, parenting support groups, and infant wellness initiatives.
In addition to maternal health services, Toni has extensive experience in nonprofit program management, outreach coordination, food distribution, event planning, data tracking, volunteer coordination, and partnership development. She previously served as a Community Responsive Wellness Program Manager, overseeing outreach operations, staff coordination, county reporting requirements, community engagement initiatives, food bank operations, and community resource distribution.
Through I Care Maternity Home, Toni continues her mission to reduce barriers impacting families by providing support services related to maternal health, housing stability, transportation, safe sleep education, car seat education, postpartum support, mental health referrals, food security, and community resource navigation.
Toni also leads ongoing community outreach efforts focused on serving individuals experiencing homelessness and families facing hardship throughout Sacramento County. On the third Saturday of every month, I Care Maternity Home collaborates with Ministries in the Park to distribute donated clothing, hygiene supplies, food, and essential resources to unhoused individuals at 16th Street and North A Street in Sacramento.
Additionally, every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, I Care Maternity Home receives donated Little Caesars pizzas, crazy bread, and chicken wings, which are distributed directly to unhoused community members in need. These consistent outreach efforts help address food insecurity while building trust, connection, and community support for vulnerable populations.
Toni’s vision is to build safe, supportive environments where mothers, children, and families can heal, stabilize, grow, and become self-sufficient while creating long-term generational change within the community. Through advocacy, outreach, housing support, maternal education, and food security initiatives, Toni continues to lead with compassion, consistency, and a strong commitment to serving others.
